Encryption declaration
Distributing software that encrypts means declaring that it encrypts, and on what basis it is classified. This page states TETHERÆ's position.
- Does it use encryption
- Yes, all session content, end to end
- What is covered
- Screen, input, clipboard, file transfers and control messages
- Algorithms
- Standard, published and widely reviewed. No proprietary cryptography.
- Implementation
- The operating system's own cryptographic libraries, not hand-rolled
- Key escrow or recovery
- None. No third party can recover a session key.
- Purpose
- Securing the user's own connection to their own equipment
- Classification basis
- Mass-market software using standard encryption
What is encrypted
Everything that passes between your device and your machine. Keys are agreed directly between the two endpoints; the relay in the middle forwards ciphertext and holds no key capable of decrypting it. It is not that we undertake not to read your sessions; it is that we are not in a position to.
Standard algorithms only
TETHERÆ implements no cryptography of its own. It uses published, widely reviewed primitives through the platform cryptographic libraries rather than hand-written implementations, which is the single most reliable way to avoid the kind of mistake that stays invisible until it is catastrophic.
We do not publish the specific suite. Nothing in the design relies on that being secret, since a well-built system is safe even when its construction is known, but neither is there a reason to hand a detailed map to anybody who asks for one.
Export classification
TETHERÆ is a mass-market product using standard encryption to secure the user’s own communications with their own equipment. It contains no proprietary or non-standard cryptography, and no facility for key escrow or third-party recovery.
App Store submissions declare that the app uses encryption, and that the encryption used is limited to standard algorithms of the kind ordinarily exempt for mass-market software. Where a distribution channel or jurisdiction requires the full technical specification, Abiomye Industries Private Limited provides it to that body on request rather than publishing it here.
Assessing it for an organisation
